Saturday's Super Site

This week, one of the past recipients of the Saturday's Super Site award has nominated a blog that they enjoy. It was a great choice on the part of E from Two Angry Brits. It turns out that this is a blog that is already one of my current daily reads.

Our Saturday's Super Site this week is Jules Crittenden - Forward Movement.

E says, "Not only does Jules write about modern day issues facing us and our politics, but recently he has been posting stories about his own time embedded with American forces at the start of the Iraq war five years ago. The stories are light-hearted at times, serious at others, but always enthralling."

As a long time reader of Forward Movement, I would have to say, I whole-heartedly agree. I have always enjoyed Jules Crittenden's views on politics and current events, mainly because his writing is laced with a very humorous sarcasm that I throughly enjoy. Since he started posting the stories from his embed five years ago I can hardly wait every night to catch the next segment.

Thank you E for the nomination, and we hope that Mr. Crittenden will be just as happy to receive it as we are to send it his way. As all of of our few recipients have learned, it is a very small token of my appreciation (and now that of others as well) for the hard work and heart that is put into some blogs. Here's to you "Critter"!

To Our Americans Serving In Iraq

This is Bob Parks. He says in ten minutes what I have been trying to say for months. Only he is more articulate and a great deal more organized. Everything he says in this video is right on. Please watch. There is some sort of brief glitch at the beginning, but it cleans up nicely.

My New Music Player

Some of you may have noticed that I have a music player at the top of my blog now. It is a bit obnoxious in size, but I had to have it. Can I ask you to listen to one song I have on it? It is a Charlie Daniels track. I know some of you may not be country fas, but you won't need to be to appreciate this one. It is called "My Beautiful America". A Must Read

I often read Michael J. Totten's blog. I find his articles very insightful, and you will notice that on the right of this page there is a standing link to his blog listed under "My Daily Reads". When I started reading his blog he was currently in Lebanon. He offered amazing glimpses of what life there must be like for the "locals". As of late, he is in Iraq doing some consulting work, but still offering valuable insight into the life of the "locals". His blog that I read today was one that left me stunned in a sense. We here about all of the usual goings on in Iraq, but to be honest, I have heard very little about Iraqi Kurdistan. I was oblivious to the fact that there was a little place inside Iraq that was so different from the rest of what I envisioned as being Iraq and Iraqi. Ok, maybe most of you know more about this than I do, and I am completely naive in this department, but I wanted to share this post of Mr. Totten's with you all just in case I wasn't alone.

Here is just a snip-it from the article. An example of one of the many things that he covered in this article.

“As a military person, I am disturbed by what is going on in America now,” he said and jabbed his finger in the air. “They want to withdraw their troops.” He banged his fist on his desk. “We want the Americans to stay. Why are people thinking like this?”

“America is divided,” I said. “We argue amongst ourselves about this.”

“Some of the politicians in Congress believe it will get them elected,” Patrick said, “if they say they’re going to withdraw from Iraq. But many of them know that the resolution that just passed…President Bush will kill it dead.”

“Yes,” General Karam said. “President Bush insisted.”

“The resolution is vetoed on arrival,” Patrick said.

“I want you, as a reporter, as a journalist,” the general said to me, “to get our Kurdish voice to the American people so they know about Kurdish suffering in Iraq. We don’t want the American army to leave this area. The terrorists are excited about what is going on in the Congress.”

“They are playing to cable television in the U.S.” Patrick said.

“That’s why we want you to pass this on to the American people,” said the general.

“Of course,” I said. “It is my job.”

The general angrily answered his phone, yelled into it, and hung up.

I decided to enter myself in a blog contest. It is called the Blogger's Choice Awards and it is sponsored by Pay Per Post which I am an active member of as many of you know. I made my husband make me some flashy buttons that will stay at the top of my page, so anyone and everyone could vote for me easily. I believe you can vote only once for my blog, and you will have to create and account to log in with at the awards site. I have never participated in a blog awards contest before, so this is entirely new to me. I have only competed in something anything like this once before in my life. I ran for student body president in Junior High, but that didn't turn out so good. I am not even sure this is anything like that really, other than trying to convince people to vote.

Oh, and by the way, in case you haven't noticed, there has been a huge increase in posts today. I am home from work sick as a dog, and have been feeling so icky I can't sleep, so here I am posting and bugging the rest of you.

Good Things Are Coming Out Of Iraq

I had to share this. It is proof of what I have been certain of all along. Our soldiers are doing good things for the people of Iraq. I am sure the same holds true from those in Afghanistan too.

Didn't Your Mother Ever Tell You That It Isn't Right To Throw Rocks?

It is isn't right, but it seems to be left! I am not going to say that I am a Karl Rove fan, because I really haven't read up on him much, but even if I had, and hated the mans guts, I can't say that I would ever participate in something like this.

When reading the story I linked above my first reaction was, in all honesty "Oh I bet your parents are proud! Spend all that money on you for an education and then you go off and do something stupid like that." Then I realized that the parents were probably just as "smart" as these students.

You see, one of the first things that my parents taught was that you don't throw rocks! I teach my son that same lesson. My sister teaches her boys that too. I can tell you right now, that even if he were an adult and in college, if I found out he had been throwing rocks I would kick his butt or die trying.

Not only that, but since when was stoning someone something civilized people did when they didn't agree with some one else's views?

You know what the injustice was in this whole debacle? There were no arrests. If it had been the college Republicans throwing the rocks at a liberal figure there would have been arrests. Not that I would have said that there shouldn't have been. I don't care who you are. You throw rocks, that is assault, and you should be arrested as long as you are over the age of the standard elementary school student. It definitely points to the double standard though doesn't it?

Wednesday's Hero

Maj. William D. Chesarek, Jr.
Royal Air Force's 847th Naval Air Squadron, Commando Helicopter Force


Maj. William D. Chesarek, Jr. has done something no other U.S. service member has done since WWII. On March 21 of this year, Maj. Chesarek was awarded the British Distinguished Flying Cross, by Queen Elizabeth, for saving lives and in recognition for his bravery during combat operations in Iraq. Maj. Chesark was assigned as an exchange officer with the Royal Air Force's 847th Naval Air Squadron, Commando Helicopter Force in 2005 and was the pilot of the RAF’s Lynx Mk7 helicopter.

On the evening of June 10, 2006, Chesarek was providing radio communication relay for British ground troops conducting a company-sized search operation near Amarah, Iraq. Listening to radio transmissions, he overheard that a vehicle involved in the operation had became disabled and a crowd of insurgents was firing small arms and rocket-propelled grenades at the company.

According to his award citation, "Chesarek elected to fly low over the area in an attempt to distract the crowd and if possible, to engage the insurgents." Because the crowd was so close to the ground troops, instead of engaging his machine gun, he "opted instead to provide bold, harassing, very low level flight over the area in an attempt to disperse the crowd."

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

How Did This Photo Escape the Eye of the MSM?

Here you have President George W. Bush, Republican, assisting Senator Robert Byrd, Democrat to his seat. The senator is almost 90 years old, and an ex-Klansman. Does Bush care at this moment, or is he helping a fellow human? Now I know many of you may point to the possible photo opportunity, but that doesn't prove to be true, as this photo isn't widespread in the main stream media, and wasn't ever going to be (for a reason I hope to explain below).



Now why is that? Well, I have my theories. One of them is that the MSM just can't bring themselves to say anything nice about the president. At this point, he could discover the cure for cancer and they either wouldn't mention it, or they would bury it in the most desolate place they could in the paper. That is how consumed with hatred the liberal MSM and the liberal Democrats are.

Now, giving someone that much power over your emotions is a bad strategic move. When you are consumed with hate towards someone you have given them too much control over you. It will be interesting in Bush stoops to use that power against them. I would wager that he won't. At the end of his second and final term, their hatred means little to him. He will continue to turn the other check, and maintain the high ground. That is confidence. That bugs the liberal media and the liberal democrats even more.

With all of that being said, I have three questions to ask of my faithful, but few readers. Is that why my mother always says "kill them with kindness"? What do you think Rosie O'Donnell will say? Do we care?

(As a side note, I asked my husband how to spell O'Donnell, as I couldn't remember how many L's were in h ere last name, and his reply was "B-I-T-C-H. Isn't he funny? I thought so.)

Who's the Hypocrite?

My husband found this on Snopes today. Snopes has verified that this is TRUE! I just had to share this. I think it makes in blatantly obvious who the hypocrite is, as well as who is really concerned about the environment. I will admit it shocked the hell out of me.

"LOOK OVER THE DESCRIPTIONS OF THE FOLLOWING TWO HOUSES AND SEE IF YOU CAN TELL WHICH BELONGS TO AN ENVIRONMENTALIST.

HOUSE # 1:

A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house all heated by gas. In ONE MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400.00 per month. In natural gas alone (which last time we checked was a fossil fuel), this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not in a northern or Midwestern "snow belt," either. It's in the South.

HOUSE # 2:

Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university, this house incorporates every "green" feature current home construction can provide. The house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on arid high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in winter and cools it in summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes 25% of
the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Flowers and shrubs native to the area blend the property into the surrounding rural landscape.

HOUSE # 1 (20 room energy guzzling mansion) is outside of Nashville, Tennessee. It is the abode of that renowned environmentalist (and filmmaker) Al Gore.

HOUSE # 2 (model eco-friendly house) is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas. Also known as "the Texas White House," it is the private residence of the President of the United States, George W. Bush.

So whose house is gentler on the environment? Yet another story you WON'T hear on CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC or read about in the New York Times or the Washington Post. Indeed, for Mr. Gore, it's truly "an inconvenient truth."

CD: "The tread"

Me: "Why does the tread make them work?"

CD: "Because it makes them get traction."

Me: "What is traction?"

CD: "I have no freaking clue. Why are you asking me all these dumb questions anyway?"
