It has been a very long week at work. There is no immediate end in site. Tomorrow is Friday, but for my co-workers and I, it is day five in a 12 day run, all of which will be over eight hours to varying degrees. So what happens when people are tired of being at work, and feeling very stressed, and they know that they have to keep going for another seven days? Now what do those same people, in that same situation do when a form printer dies? Well, if you work with the people I do, this is what.
The printer died when I was at lunch. I returned from lunch and checked my email as I always so. Most of it was the standard run of the mill email I get all day long. There was an over abundance it seemed, but some days are just like that. Then I spotted this email for our office manager:
Subject: Death in our Family
Importance: High
Yes that's right. Today our dearest friend #3 choked to death
while trying to deliver "J" a [redacted company name] bill of lading. She was born in the early 1990's during the implementation of the old warehouse management system. She was dedicated to making our staff a success and will be missed by all. #3 is survived by two sisters, #2 and #4.
She is now laid to rest in our server room.
Donations to the Food Bank of Nevada are preferred in lieu of flowers.
All kidding aside-it did choke, but we switched out the network cable and you can still request bills of lading to print to #3.
May she rest in pieces...
Please advise the time of the viewing, we would like to pay our last respects...

Do you need more proof of how bad national health care will be? I didn't, but I will share this with all of you anyway.
A woman of 61 was refused a routine heart operation by a hard-up NHS trust for being too old.
Dorothy Simpson suffers from an irregular heartbeat and is at increased risk of a stroke. But health chiefs refused to allow the procedure which was recommended by her specialist.
The school secretary was stunned by the ruling.
"I can't believe that at 61 I'm too old for this operation," she said.
"A friend has had exactly the same thing done and it has changed his life.
"I feel as though I've been put out to grass and surely deserve better than this."
Mrs Simpson, of Leake, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, was diagnosed three years ago with atrial fibrillation, a condition suffered by a million people in the UK.
It can cause palpitations, heart failure, strokes, shortness of breath, chest pains and blackouts.
Drugs have had limited success and her hospital consultant decided the most effective treatment would be a procedure known as a catheter ablation.
An electrode on the tip of a long wire is manoeuvred through a vein or artery and destroys abnormal heart tissue causing the rhythm problems.
National guidelines set no age limit for the procedure, which is usually carried out under local anaesthetic and has a better than 75 per cent chance of curing the condition.
Her consultant's application for Mrs Simpson to have the operation was rejected in December.
The North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust is said to have cited her age as one of the reasons for refusal.
Mrs Simpson said: "'If I lived in another part of the country there wouldn't be a problem.
"The condition is very distressing and is now starting to affect my work.
"I'm generally an upbeat person but this sort of condition affects you more and more as time goes on, and attacks happen more often. What concerns me most is the risk of a stroke."
A spokesman for the Atrial Fibrillation Association said: "In this day and age when people are living longer, it is wrong that they should have the door to their future shut in their face."
However late yesterday, following media interest in Mrs Simpson's plight, the PCT backed down and agreed to fund her treatment.
Medical director Dr David Geddes apologised to Mrs Simpson for the "distress" caused by the delay.
He said: "We have reviewed the case in the light of the additional clinical information and national guidance and, as Mrs Simpson fits the clinical criteria, we have agreed funding for her treatment."
"All decisions are taken on individual clinical needs; we do not discriminate on the grounds of age.
"Our procedures exist to ensure fair decision-making, based on clinical evidence, for all our patients."
I just don't think President Obama has a clue. The more he talks, the more apparent this becomes. The latest, in what I consider a long line of proof, came about during a speech he delivered yesterday. He threw the United States Postal Service directly under the bus!
In his speech he states that:
"They do it all the time," he said. "UPS and FedEx are doing just fine. ... It's the Post Office that's always having problems."
The United States Postal Service employs over 760,000 workers, making it the third-largest employer in the United States, after the United States Department of Defense and Wal-Mart.
It operates 32,741 post offices and locations in the US.
Its employees deliver mail at an average yearly cost of $235 per residence as of 2009.
The USPS operates the largest civilian vehicle fleet in the world, with an estimated 260,000 vehicles, the majority of which are the easily identified Chevrolet/Grumman LLV (Long-Life Vehicle), and the newer Ford/Utilimaster FFV (Flex-Fuel Vehicle), originally also referred to as the "CRV" (Carrier Route Vehicle).
In an interview on NPR, a USPS official stated that for every penny increase in the national average price of gasoline, the USPS spends an extra $8 million to fuel its fleet. This implies that the fleet requires some 800 million gallons (3.03 billion liters) of fuel per year, and consumes an estimated fuel budget of $2.4 billion, were the national gasoline price to average $3.00.
The Department of Defense and the USPS jointly operate a postal system to deliver mail for the military; this is known as the Army Post Office (for Army and Air Force postal facilities) and Fleet Post Office (for Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard postal facilities).
The Board of Governors of the United States Postal Service sets policy, procedure, and postal rates for services rendered, and has a similar role to a corporate board of directors. My husband shared a video with my today that he found in his daily travels through the world wide web. My husband knew I would love this video the minute he saw it. You see, I am a die-hard country music fan. I think that country music is American folk music. I also think that country music relates to life as a genre more than any other. In all music you can find at least one song that speaks to your soul, or even one or two that fit a moment in your life, but there are so many that as a person you can never relate to. However, country music has a song, or several, that fit every moment of your life. I have always felt that country music writers and singers have a better understanding of every day people and what the go through,than most. They also have a way of telling the story in a manner that fits life.
That being said, I can also tell when a true music fan lives in the heart of a musical performer of any genre. I can tell this, because they sing duets with country stars, or have their own country album or single that makes the country music chart. If you dispute that, look at Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, or Darius Rucker (from Hootie and the Blowfish). Recently, Dave Matthews recorded a country song with Kenny Chesney. I am sure there are others. In the same respect, country music stars redo songs that are popular on other charts, showing that they appreciate all forms of music themselves. I have heard songs that have been re-recorded by country artists that were originally from Aerosmith and Michael Buble on my local country stations. I am sure I am forgetting numerous other.
Now that I have driven completely off the road I was traveling, I should probably share the video that brought all of this on. The video, or rather the man and his performance of a song that made me think, and want to share those thoughts with you. The man and the song that brought tears to my eyes and sent them pouring down my checks. It is from the show America's Got Talent. The gentleman singing is Kevin Skinner, who is an unemployed chicken catcher from Kentucky. Please watch this video all the way through, and don't make the same mistake the audience and judges did. I hope every person in that audience has learned that you can't judge a book by its cover. I for one, will never discount the abilities of an unemployed chicken catcher from Kentucky. He has talent, and anyone who can sing a song, and make you feel the emotion it was written with wins in my book. I hope Kevin Skinner wins the competition, but even if he doesn't, he wins with me.
Congratulations Mr. Skinner, and thank you for the gift you have given us. Thank you for reminding America that talent is often hidden in the place they least expect it. Please remember, you may not be good at math (as you stated), but you can, and have still taught a very valuable lesson through the sharing of something beautiful, and from the heart.
